NORTH KOREA: US NAVAL BLOCKADE WOULD BE "ACT OF WAR"

Image
North Korea has warned the US would take a "dangerous and big step" towards nuclear war if it enforces a naval blockade. It said it would take "merciless self-defensive" measures. North Korea state media said the Trump administration was "pursuing a policy of military confrontation but this is nothing but a death-bed struggle by those alarmed by the might of the DPRK always emerging victorious". "Should the United States and its followers try to enforce the naval blockade against our country, we will see it as an act of war and respond with merciless self-defensive counter-measures as we have warned repeatedly," said KCNA, citing a foreign ministry spokesman. Although a blockade to enforce trade sanctions is not believed to be imminent, after North Korea's November rocket test US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said it was a possibility. MOURINHO BLAME SELECTION HEADACHE FOR MKHITARYAN ABSENCE

Image
Jose Mourinho has blamed the recent absence of Henrikh Mkhitaryan on having too many players to select from. The Armenian has not been involved in the matchday squad in seven of the last eight games and last featured as a substitute in United’s 1-0 win over Brighton on 25 November. Mourinho was asked about Mkhitaryan’s absence in his post-match press conference following the Reds’ 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. The boss outlined that his plethora of options in midfield and attacking positions means that there is competition for every place in the starting line-up and on the bench. He said: “I can only have six [outfield] players on the bench and I try to have some balance on the bench – I had two defenders and [Daley] Blind who can play in different areas. I had Ashley Young to cover me all of the wing and the wing-back position. “I had [Ander] Herrera as a midfield player, Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] as a striker and Marcus [Rashford] as a seco

UK. WARNS ITS CITIZENS OF TERRORIST ATTACKS IN NIGERIA

Image
The United Kingdom has asked its citizens to avoid traveling to Nigeria during the Christmas and New Year holiday period, owing to possible militant attacks in the capital Abuja and other volatile areas. “Terrorist groups have threatened to conduct bombings and attacks in the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) area during this period,” the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said in a travel advisory. “You should avoid places where crowds gather, including religious gatherings and places of worship, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, transport hubs and camps for displaced people,” the FCO added. “There is a high threat of criminal kidnap in the Niger Delta region and Kogi state. Kidnaps can be for financial or political gain, and can be motivated by criminality or terrorism,” it concluded. The FCO advisory came barely one week after the United States issued similar warnings to its citizens. Both advisories

SSANUU, NASU, NAAT RESUME STRIKE

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) have directed all their branches nationwide to resume indefinite strike on Monday, December 4. This directive was given in a letter to all the branch chairmen of the non-teaching staff unions in the universities, under the umbrella of Joint Action Committee (JAC), titled, “Directives to immediately resume the suspended strike,” signed by Samson Chijioke Ugwoke (SSANU), Chris Ani (NASU) and Sani Suleiman (NAAT). The letter explained that the action was as a result of the inability of the Federal Government to clarify the criteria for the disbursement of the N23 billion it released to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), while only pittance was allocated to the three non-teaching staff unions. It read: “Please recall our last correspondence to you, in which we inform

Manchester united midfielder, Paul  Pogba will be out of next weekend's crucial Manchester derby, following the red card received by the French man in Saturday's game against the Gunners.       Pogba got the marching orders after needlessly stamping on Hector Bellerin with little more than 15 minutes left to play as Jose Mourinho's side led 3-1 in North London.   Pogba had provided the assists for the goals scored by Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard and what could have been a memorable outing was blighted by the red card.   I don't know; Mourinho said in response to the appropriateness of the decision. But while the United boss offered a little opinion, Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand said it was an unnecessary move by the midfielder.   "I think he got emotional, he lost his head," Lampard said on BT Sport. "There was no need to make that tackle at that point in the game."   At the moment, united are five point a

MOURINHO: DE GEA IS THE WORLD'S BEST

Image
Jose Mourinho has told our Man of the Match David De Gea that his impressive display against Arsenal proved he is the best goalkeeper in the world. The Spaniard was in outstanding form during the Reds' brilliant 3-1 win at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening – including a remarkable double stop to deny Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez in quick succession in the second half. He made 14 saves in the game – the joint-most by a goalkeeper in a single Premier League game alongside Tim Krul, for Newcastle against Tottenham in November 2013, and Vito Mannone, for Sunderland against Chelsea in April 2014 - since Opta started recording that data in 2003/04. De Gea was the overwhelming winner of our star-man award, as chosen by fans on Twitter , with 90 per cent of the final vote, ahead of two-goal Jesse Lingard and Marcos Rojo. After the game, the boss recognised the efforts of De Gea and felt his performance illustrated that th
